Roberto is CEO and Creative Director for H.Stern, Brazilian Jeweler. In this blog he gives an insight into his vision and talks about the collaborations he has with creative people from all over the world.
“We have worked with Diane von Furstenberg on several projects, the first of which was completed in 2004. Let me talk about this cooperation and our projects.
Diane is an amazing, inspiring woman, and it’s always been both a joy and a challenge working with Diane – for all the right reasons. First, I have nothing but the greatest respect for all that she has achieved, and she’s quite simply charming. Second, though, she seriously knows jewellery – she’s been collecting all her life and is really passionate about her pieces. I was a little awestruck when we first started, but I soon realised it was a huge honour – if someone as knowledgeable about jewellery as Diane chooses us we’ve got to be doing something right. Since then my respect for her has grown tremendously – she’s strong, creative, and always innovative – we make great partners!
We’ve made several collections together. Our latest, ‘Sutras’, is inspired by the rich jewellery tradition of the 18th century Moghul jewellers and ancient mysticism and includes a total of eight pieces, including bracelets, pendants, earrings and rings.
Diane has always been fascinated by India so we spent a number of months researching the traditional Kundan style where gold and gemstones together create new forms. Traditionally, they also boasted engraving on the back, so Diane included inspiring mantras of her own on the reverse of each item. To round off the remarkable pieces, the combination of gold and crystal alludes to the beauty and sensuality of the natural female form – so typical of Diane’s design. I am already looking forward to creating the next collection with her.”
